The Story

Axis Pro Ultra High Modulus Carbon - Foil Mast & Base Plate

Available in 3 sizes, 800mm (31.49"), 900mm (35.43"), 1050mm (41.33")

Affectionately named the 'dogleg' by the test team, the PRO – Ultra High Modulus Carbon is quite a departure from the industry's more conventional masts. Building on the impressive performance and stiffness of our existing Carbon mast program, the PRO – Ultra High Modulus Carbon boasts an unbelievable 55% increase in stiffness and incredible torsional rigidity as compared to our industry-standard 19mm Alloy mast. (By comparison, our Power Carbon and Power Carbon High Modulus are 25% and 35% stiffer respectively)

Not just stiffer, but thinner and narrower, with a 12.5mm reduction in chord in the bottom half of the mast (compared to power carbon masts), and a 1.5mm reduction in thickness (13.5mm thickness in the bottom section of the mast where it counts).

What Dominic Hoskyns (Axis Pro tester ) has to say -

If I had enough money for that to not be an issue, I would without a shadow of a doubt buy one - they are phenomenal.

I've used the 800 and the 1050.

The only one I haven't used yet is the 900 but that's the one I want.

I loved the 1050 Ultra pro because it was so stiff , fast and glidey because from the dog leg down it sort of pulls in at the trailing edge.

That particular section onwards towards the fuse it’s a narrower profile. Roughly a third of the mast.

Whereas most carbon masts that taper in gradually throughout the whole length and to be perfectly honest that bit closest to the fuselage is too thin and a lot of masts get flex from there so they've just got a very very small sweet spot.

I was pumping the 1050 mast and the 1100SP, this was at Nazare, in seriously choppy water, turbulent water with lots of currents

My God I didn't detect any flex whatsoever, it enabled me to just carve with confidence.I could stay so high on the mast and pump better.

To begin with I was thinking bloody hell these NEW masts really do help pumping.

Then I realised it wasn't the length of the mast, it was the fact it was so stiff all my energy was transferring into the movement of the foil.

I swear I've never pumped that far in conditions like that, it was crazy.

Maybe the length of the mast did help me a little bit, but it's nuts, it really was nuts.

The transition from me using the 820 High modulus carbon mast to the 900 High mod mast, I found it difficult to be honest.

Because there is still flex in that extra length.

The extra length with the Ultra Pro didn't make hardly any difference because of the extra stiffness.

I mean it did, you've got to get used to being higher on the mast and obviously leaning over more in turns and coming out of them quicker in turns.

But from the point of view of noticing the flex from the Axis 820 High mod mast to the 900 High mod mast I could notice flex.

But when I was using the Axis 1050 Ultra Pro mast nothing, absolutely I just couldn't notice any flex at all. It was dreamy.

Construction

The fact that this one is made of this military grade modulus carbon and the design of it, it's phenomenal.

Another factor that sets this mast apart from the rest, is its radical new and unconventional foil section. It's quite a departure from conventional foil sections that have a tendency to become 'locked In' as speed increases. Our exclusive PRO Mast foil section has its widest point moved back on the mast, allowing freer turning at any speed. Our modelling predicted 20% less drag, but didn't prepare us for its slippery willingness to go fast and turn like nothing we've experienced.

As the name implies the PRO – Ultra High Modulus Carbon is constructed from military grade ultra-high modulus materials, which, while they raise the cost of production, do provide the ultimate ride.

The PRO – Ultra High Modulus Carbon ships in a custom high-quality protective mast bag and is completely compatible with all our products.

Available in 3 sizes,
